Tymicah Naidoo is an artist on the rise in the South African music scene, captivating audiences with her soulful sound and powerful voice. Hailing from Meyersdal, Tymicah has a natural gift for music that transcends genres, with a current focus on house music. Her music is more than just a beat—it’s an emotional connection, a journey through rhythm and lyrics that resonate deeply with listeners.
Although Tymicah is studying actuarial sciences, her true passion lies in music, and she has every intention of pursuing it full-time. She approaches her craft with a sense of purpose and authenticity, describing music as a necessity in her life. “I make music out of necessity. I have one of those brains that makes me incredibly sad if I don’t,” she shares. This drive stems from her desire to connect with her audience on a deeper level, offering them not just a song but a meaningful experience.
Tymicah’s debut single, Forgetting You, is set to be a turning point in her career, and she’s certain it will make waves. The track aims to celebrate liberation through dance and invite listeners to reflect on what they want to let go of in their own lives. Inspired by the dynamic evolution of South African house music, Forgetting You is a testament to her roots in the genre and her ambition to create music that speaks to the soul.
Her deep connection to house music is evident in her sound. Growing up in South Africa, Tymicah was strongly influenced by the vibrant house music scene, and this influence shines through in her work.
The music she listened to in her teenage years continues to inspire her today, shaping her as an artist who is determined to make a global impact. Tymicah’s dream is to represent South Africa on the world stage, and she’s already gaining traction, performing around Cape Town while preparing for future releases.
One of the challenges Tymicah faced while creating Forgetting You was finding the right creative team. Having spent some time away from the music scene in Cape Town after living in Johannesburg, she didn’t have the established connections she needed to bring her vision to life. But Tymicah’s persistence paid off. “I went on an intense search for the perfect producers and visual artists to help me execute my vision,” she explains. “It was a challenge, but I knew it would be worth it.”
Tymicah reflects on her journey with a sense of gratitude and purpose. Looking back, she offers some advice to her younger self: “I’d tell her to get uncomfortable as often as she can, to bring fun into everything she does, to never lose her self-respect and to commit herself to chasing wisdom. I think that combination is all she’ll really need to maximize her youth.”
As she continues to balance her studies and music career, Tymicah is dedicated to crafting songs that will move her listeners. She pours her heart into both her music and her education, fully aware of the impact she can have on her audience. “Completing my degree and sharing more content with the world are top priorities for me,” she says.
For Tymicah, seeing Forgetting You connect with people has been nothing short of surreal. “More than anything, I have just wanted to see people dance to it or cry for that matter. So to see an emotional connection with the song from my audience has been incredible.”
Her passion for house music is reflected in her admiration for the Cape Town scene. “The scene is absolutely booming! Our artists are incredible, and the house DJs that Cape Town keeps producing maintain the city’s pulse. It’s phenomenal here, really.” Tymicah is proud to be part of this vibrant community and is ready to take her place in it with her unique sound and powerful voice.
With Nina making waves worldwide and more music on the horizon, it’s clear that Tymicah Naidoo is an artist to watch. Her journey is just beginning, and the future of house music in South Africa is in good hands with this rising star leading the charge.
