The London-based music duo, Planets, are back in action with their latest track, ‘Winner’, following the success of their previous two singles ‘SIGNS’ and ‘Red Earth’. Hector Castro, the band’s guitarist, shares the inspiration behind the song: "I wanted to create something that would motivate people like me – those who have been too afraid to put in the work and fight for what they truly want in life.” He reflects on his journey, acknowledging that while he had ample support growing up, he often took it for granted, hesitant to take the risks necessary to fulfill his potential. "The song is a conversation with that part of me, and ultimately, it’s about taking control of my life and starting to build the future I always envisioned."

The duo's creative process is an intricate and dynamic collaboration between Hector and Charlotte King, the band’s powerhouse vocalist. Hector explains, "It all starts with a melodic idea that I keep returning to. When I pick up the guitar, I’m always looking for that spark, something that excites me. The lyrics usually come after the harmonic structure is in place, but sometimes, the words find their way in earlier. From there, it’s all about working together to bring the track to life. Charlotte takes my ‘zombie’ ideas and makes them shine. She has this incredible ability to elevate everything to a place that feels truly exciting."

As for the song’s structure, Hector reveals how ‘Winner’ evolved during the writing process: "We had the verse and pre-chorus recorded, but we both felt the song needed a lift, so we decided to modulate to a major key for the chorus. It was a case of the song telling us what it needed."

Despite being relatively new to the scene, having debuted with ‘Red Earth’ in July 2024, Planets have already made a significant impact. Their sophomore release, ‘SIGNS’ in October, further solidified their unique sound and artistic vision. With just two singles under their belt, their rapid progress is a testament to their undeniable chemistry and drive, leaving fans eager to see where this rising duo is headed next.
