You ever hear a song that feels like a diary entry left open on the kitchen table—raw, a little messy, deeply personal, but you can’t help but lean in and read every word? That’s exactly what Colatura’s latest single “I Wanna Get Better” feels like. It’s not polished perfection—and that’s the point.

Released on April 9th as the lead single off their upcoming EP If I’m Being Honest (out August 1st via Easy Does It Records), “I Wanna Get Better” is both a cry for help and a reluctant hug to yourself. It lives in the murky space between self-doubt and self-awareness, and if you’ve ever looked around and wondered why everyone else seems to have it all figured out—yeah, this one’s for you.

So... Why Aren’t We Getting Better?

The song opens with a deceptively simple sentiment: wanting to be better, but feeling stuck in the same loops. It wrestles with the pressure of living up to other people’s expectations—family, friends, the little voice in your head that never shuts up—and that exhausting realization that no matter how hard you try, you still feel one step behind.

Lead vocalist Jennica Best delivers these lyrics with a tone that’s half confession, half shrug—it’s intimate but never pitiful. “Why is everyone good?” she asks, not as a dig, but as a genuine wonder. There’s no bitterness, just a quiet ache that lingers long after the song ends.

Sonically? It’s a Vibe.

Musically, Colatura does what they do best—walking the tightrope between dreamy and heavy, clean and fuzzy, control and chaos. “I Wanna Get Better” is laced with punchy guitars, lo-fi textures, and a subtle melodic hook that creeps under your skin the more you listen. It's indie rock with emotional teeth, the kind that sneaks up on you after midnight.

Produced by Nixon Boyd (of Hollerado and Dizzy fame), this track—and the whole upcoming EP, really—feels like a 3AM text you never sent but really wanted to. The band’s signature blend of warm distortion and emotionally incisive lyrics has matured into something sharper, more focused, and undeniably human.

A Band That Thrives in the “In-Between”

Colatura has always been hard to pin down in the best way. One moment they’re floating through reverb-soaked dreamscapes, the next they’re digging into gritty, guitar-forward territory. They don’t try to fit into a genre—they bend it around them.

After establishing themselves in Brooklyn’s indie scene and relocating to Pittsburgh in 2024, the band’s dual-city identity adds even more texture to their work. They’ve never sounded more honest, more reflective, or more ready to rip the Band-Aid off and see what happens.

With a growing list of praise from Brooklyn Vegan, Under The Radar, and FLOOD, plus a string of festival appearances and radio play (shoutout to WFUV and KEXP), Colatura is no longer just a band to watch—they’re a band to feel.

What’s Next?

If “I Wanna Get Better” is any indication, If I’m Being Honest is going to hurt in all the right ways. The EP promises to be a series of late-night confessionals—nostalgic, aching, and cathartic AF. And after that? A US and European tour, where Colatura will bring their beautifully unfiltered sound to the stage.

So yeah, maybe we’re all a little broken. Maybe we’re not getting better as fast as we’d like. But if there’s a soundtrack to that slow climb, it’s this song.

And that’s something worth hitting repeat on.
